Ostend

Monument to the Missing Fisherman n

Zeeheldenplein, 8400 Oostende, Belgium

Description:

The monument to the missing fishermen is located on one of the embankments of the northern city. The monument is dedicated to all the sailors who went to sea and did not return.

The monument is a mini-stele, at the very top of which a sailor proudly rises, peering into the sea distance, and under it lie two anchors.

On the other side of the stele there is also a sailor, but with exactly opposite emotions - sadness is clearly visible in his eyes. The monument was erected on the site of the first lighthouse of Ostend, dating from the XVIII century. The memorial was built in 1953.
