Day of Disabled People of the Republic of Belarus

Description:

Let us help those who need it.
“Persons with disabilities in the Republic of Belarus shall enjoy the full political, socio-economic and personal rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and other acts of legislation. Persons with disabilities have an inalienable right to respect for their human dignity. Discrimination against persons with disabilities is prohibited and punishable by law.” Article 1 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus of November 11, 1991 No. 1224-XII "On Social Protection of Disabled Persons in the Republic of Belarus".

On this day it will not be superfluous to remind everyone that there are people among us who deserve not only sympathy, but above all help, ensuring their rights to a decent life, work and rest. Currently, 510,000 disabled people live in Belarus, including 29,000 disabled children.

For a healthy, energetic, full of strength, it is sometimes difficult to imagine life locked in the walls of your own apartment. We rarely see people with disabilities on the streets, because the architecture of our settlements, roads and transport are not yet fully adapted for their movement.

These barriers are increasingly in the past: Belarus is actively creating conditions for the socialization of this category of citizens and improving the comfort of their lives. And there are always those who will help and support.

The state finances vocational training for unemployed persons with disabilities and encourages employers to hire them.

Relevant measures are provided for by the State Program on the barrier-free environment of physically impaired persons for 2007-2010. After all, for a disabled person, even an ordinary curb can become an insurmountable obstacle.

In Belarus, the share of urban infrastructure that meets the requirements of a barrier-free environment is about 20%. But by 2011, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, it will increase to 50 percent.
