The perpetrators of the celebration in the country, however, only about three thousand, but in the economy of Belarus, the industry has recently acquired strategic importance. This is due to the fact that it has an important role in the implementation of two large-scale tasks: the development of domestic tourism and exports without intermediaries, which primarily implies independent transportation of goods.
Despite the fact that the republic has no access to the sea, a fleet of ships constantly cross it from edge to edge along rivers and canals. The industry is small, but unique: Belarusian watermen design, build and operate ships carrying bulk cargoes. Their annual volume is 1.7 - 2.0 million tons.
In the water transport system of the Republic of Belarus there are 10 river ports - in Bobruisk, Brest, Gomel, Mikashevichy, Mogilev, Mozyr, Pinsk, Rechitsa, Vitebsk, Grodno.
Four waterway enterprises in Gomel, Pinsk, Mozyr and Bobruisk serve the Dnieper, Berezina, Sozh, Pripyat, Western Dvina, Neman, Mukhavetsi Dnieper-Bug Canal.
Thanks to highly qualified personnel potential, accumulated experience and technical capabilities, rivermen and sailors of Belarus have performed and continue to perform complex tasks for the development of water transport of the republic, showing high labor and creative activity and professional skills, remaining convinced patriots of their not easy, but romantic profession.
