Pokrovsky Cathedral
Kuibysheva 9, Baranovichi 225406, Belarus
Description:
Pokrovsky Cathedral in Baranovichi was opened and consecrated in 1931. Built in a difficult time for the whole country, the temple has retained its uniqueness without significant reconstructions until today. Its history has a wonderful and perhaps mystical character, which makes it one of the main shrines of the city.
The architectural solution is made in a strict academic style and is quite traditional for Russian churches. Its three-tiered tower with a bell tower is an example of classical construction.
The artistic value of the cathedral is represented by seven mosaic paintings. Two of them are placed on the outside and decorate the northern and southern entrances, and five - inside the temple. The mosaics were made by the famous artist V. Frolov on the sketches of Russian artists Vasnetsov, Bruni, Koshelev and Dumitrashko. Initially, these mosaics were made for the temple of Alexander Nevsky in Poland, but after its demolition, parts of the mosaics found their permanent place in the Pokrovsky temple.
