Bobruisk
Belorussia, Bobruisk, per. Sinky
Description:
The construction of the fortress went quickly - by the end of 1811 all the main fortifications were built. They covered three directions: north, west and south. Upon completion of construction, the fortress was ranked the first class of fortification and defensive structures. In 1812, by the beginning of the war, 300 guns were placed in the fortress, and the garrison numbered 4 thousand people. The fortress was considered the best defensive structure of Russia at that time.
For almost the entire XIX century, the fortress remained a defensive structure, used as a warehouse. However, over time, the building lost its defensive importance, and from 1892 it was already used as a disciplinary institution, where guilty lower military ranks were sent. Today, the fortress is recognized as a model of fortification construction and is a cultural and historical monument of the Republic of Belarus.
