Soviet street
Description:
Soviet Street is the central street of Brest, which is a pedestrian section. It is often called the local promenade or local Arbat.
The length of Sovestskaya street is about 1700 meters. From the beginning of the XIX century until 1921 it was called Million. The buildings preserved on it are buildings of the early XX century. The main building that dominates the architectural space of the street is the St. Nicholas Brotherly Church, built in 1906 at the expense of Brest sailors, participants in the Russian-Japanese war.
Several decorative sculptures are installed on the Soviet one, including the monument “Old Town”, which depicts purring cats. Central to the composition of the street is a complex of local springs brought to the surface in a small pavilion covered with a cast dome.
On the street there are numerous cafes, the central office of the Belarusian Telecom, one of the buildings of the university, as well as a greenhouse.
