The monastery settled on the Hospital Island, in the Volyn Fort building in the Brest Fortress. The house church was built on the 2nd floor, in the former Lenin Room. At the time of opening in 2002, the monastery had 11 nuns, in 2009 - 26. The abbot of the monastery since its foundation was and remains the abbess Alexander (Zharin).
The first mention of the Orthodox monastery of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in the city of Brest dates back to 1480. At that time it was a monastery, but it stood in the same place as it is now. Just like the St. Simeon Monastery, it was transferred to the Uniates, then returned to the Orthodox. Here served his last liturgy, the Monk Martyr Athanasius of Brest, on the eve of his arrest, after which he was brutally killed. The monastery once again passed to Catholics, but in 1795 again became Orthodox. In 1836, defensive structures were built in the Brest Fortress, and the monastery, which was on its territory, was abolished, and a two-storey Volyn Fort was built in its place.
Now the convent of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God is well known in Brest and loved by its inhabitants. It has a small but fully developed territory: in addition to the garden and livestock yard there are beautiful lawns, flower beds, arbor and even a small fountain on the alpine slide. For worship in the summer, a spacious wooden gazebo with open walls and a glazed altarpiece was built. During the service, you can hear birds chirping and foliage rustling. The monastery is open to visitors and its services almost always feature secular visitors.
