Belarus, Brest, Levonevsky St., 3.
About the company:
On one of the most beautiful ancient streets of the city of Brest, Levonevsky Street, in an elegant mansion built in the early XX century, a new Museum of the history of the city is located. He settled here on July 25, 1998. Its exposition describes the history of Brest from its first mention to the post-war years.
In 4 halls, with a total area of 200 square meters, there are about 800 exhibits illustrating the life of the city and its inhabitants, as early as 1019 - the year of the foundation of Berestye - the progenitor of Brest. The name of the city was transformed more than once, depending on who became the owner of the territory on which it was located: Berestier, Bzhest-Litovsk, Brest-Litovsk, Brest-nad-Bug and, finally, Brest.
In the museum you can see the documents, maps and plans of the growing city, see the weapons used by its defenders, the books that were read by its inhabitants many centuries ago. Also of great interest is the hoard of coins of the XVII century, according to archaeologists, they were minted in Brest at the Mint in 1665 - 1666.
A separate place in the life of Brest is occupied by the war years and the years of recovery after the war. The museum constantly conducts excursions for adults and children's groups.
