St. Tikhvin Monastery

Belarus, Gomel, St. Kotovsky, 38.

Description:

Although the monastery was founded relatively recently, only in 1993, its history has been known since the end of the XIX century, when it was converted from Old Believer male to female. Then the monastery was still in a village near Gomel. In 1914 there were 80 nuns there.

The history of the monastery was interrupted several times. The first time it was closed in 1929, and in these walls until 1943 the orphanage was established. In 1946, the monastery was closed again, and the nuns were dissolved.

In 1992, at the Gomel Cathedral, a community was formed, which was transformed into a monastery. The city authorities allocated for him a two-storey building, on the first floor of which was the Church of St. Matrona of Moscow.

The sisters living in the monastery teach at Sunday school. There are also icon painting and sewing workshops.
