Hrodna

Royal Grodno

Description:

You will see the most preserved city in Belarus, where you can see everything from the oldest building in Belarus through all stages of our history to the modern Aqua Park.

The favorite city of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and Poland is worth a long trip. Moreover, to warm up after it will be where – through the very center of the medieval city is a pedestrian street, along which there are numerous shops and cafes. Be sure to raise your head - there are preserved chic cast balconies, the pride of Grodno blacksmiths.

In the warm season, you can start a walk from the city park named after Jean Gilibert, the founder of the first medical academy in Belarus. From here there is an exceptionally successful view of the square named after Tyzenhaus, a philanthropist and economist who built this part of the city, later called Gorodnitsa.

The true glory of Grodno brought its temples. One of the most beautiful churches in Belarus, the former Jesuit Church of the Body of God, is a wonderful example of Vilna Baroque architecture. Next to it is a unique museum – the oldest pharmacy in Belarus, created by Jesuit monks. Herbs for the manufacture of medicines were grown by students of the Jesuit college.

The classical Baroque temples – Franciscan and Bernardine – will not leave indifferent. At the latter there is an active Roman Catholic theological seminary. On the walls of the Brigid church you can admire the unique technique of sgraffito.

There are fewer churches in Grodno than churches, but what kind! The oldest Borisoglebskaya (Kolozhskaya) church with a unique system of voice-players and decorations of their maelik slabs has delighted Grodno residents and guests of the city for more than 800 years! And the elegant stucco of the Pokrovsky Cathedral will tell about the pre-revolutionary city.

The Calvinist Gothic Church and the Choral Modern Synagogue of the XIX century complement the unique ensemble of the city with their original architecture.

Grodno is inextricably linked with Neman, over which for many centuries towered two castles - Old and New. Severe and solemn, they stand over steep ramparts, opening a unique view of the eternal river.

Grodno can be known not only “from the outside”, but also “from the inside”. It will be interesting for visitors of all ages:
