Franciscan monastery

ooh Darwin, Grodno, Belarus

Description:

The Franciscan Catholic Monastery on the left bank of the Neman is an architectural monument of the XVII century. This is a complex of buildings built in 1635 in the Baroque style. The monastery looks unusual, which is facilitated by the uneven terrain, which made its adjustments to the composition of buildings. However, asymmetry is characteristic of other temple buildings in Belarus.

The bell tower, gate with a fence, a church and a residential building - here and the whole monastery last form a closed courtyard in the form of an irregular quadrangle. Without going into complex terminology details, it can be noted that architecture has its own characteristics. In general, the monastery looks strict, but quite bright - there are many green and blue tones in the decor, there are paintings in the style of romanticism.

The church has seven altars. One of them is wooden, decorated with sculptures and skillful overhead carvings. The rest of the altars are stone, decorated with sculptures and appropriate images. In the design of the interior space, several styles are combined - multi-age baroque and rococo.

It is worth noting that it is worth visiting the monastery not even for the sake of the monastery itself, but for the sake of the peace of this place and the beautiful views that open from the high bank of the Neman to the city.
