New castle

New Castle, street. Zamkovaya, 20, Grodno, Belarus.

Description:

The new castle in Grodno was built in front of the famous Old Royal Castle in 1734-1751, when the latter had already ceased to perform its main functions due to deterioration and dilapidation.

The new castle was used by the great Lithuanian princes and Polish kings as a summer residence. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941, the building was destroyed, but in 1952 it was rebuilt again from the style of Soviet neoclassicism, and the regional congress of the CPSU began to be located here.

Now the castle houses the Museum of Natural History and the Grodno Regional Library. Moreover, the fashion that has appeared in recent years to paint in the New Castle of the newlyweds allows them to feel like real representatives of royal blood.

In the courtyard of the castle still grow acacia planted in 2009. But the blue spruce planted at the entrance, for some reason cut down.
