Temple of the Resurrection of Christ
ooh Gamarnica 29, Minsk, Belarus
Description:
The history of the Holy Resurrection Church goes back to the beginning of the XVII century, when it is mentioned in historical sources. In those years, like most of the Minsk churches, it was turned into a Uniate and remained so until 1681. It is known that the first temple was quite small and built of wood. After almost a century and a half, in 1786, the wooden temple was replaced by a new, stone, which was traditionally consecrated in honor of the Resurrection of the Lord.
The XIX century was marked by various changes in the status of the church - it repeatedly passed from one parish to another, and by 1856 it was completely dismantled in connection with the abolition of the parish. The decision to restore the temple was made only at the end of the twentieth century. In 1998, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II performed the rite of consecration of the foundation stone on the site of the future church, a year later the first stilt was driven into the foundation of the building, and in 2008 the consecration of a new five-domed church in honor of the Resurrection of Christ took place.
The temple consists of two churches: the lower one – the crypto, consecrated in the name of righteous John Kormyansky, the Belarusian saint, a particle of whose relics are stored here, and the upper one – the Resurrection of Christ. At the temple there is a parish school, active work is carried out with parishioners, a library works and even a parish newspaper is published.
