National Library

pr. Independence, 116, Minsk, Belarus

Description:

The unusual project of the National Library of Viktor Kramarenko won the international architectural exhibition in 1988. But then it was considered too futuristic and time-consuming, starting to implement only fifteen years later. The author himself says that the view of the future appearance of the building came to him in a dream. The image of the library crystal was so vivid that he immediately transferred it to paper. Today, everyone knows the character of the National Library of Minsk. According to the Village of Joy website, the National Library ranks 24th in the list of the most unusual buildings in the world.

The main highlight of the library is the complex spatial-volume shape of the rhombocuboctahedron. This is the largest construction project in Minsk in the last two decades. To give you an idea of the scale of the building, imagine having two football fields on each of the three floors of the library.

It is the fastest library in the world. It uses its own railway and telelift to deliver books. The library houses the Museum of Books with unique exhibits of the XIV century. On the roof of the crystal at a height of 72 meters there is an observation deck, to which you can climb one of the panoramic elevators.

In addition, the library has a restaurant, a buffet, a spacious Internet center, an international press center and several reception rooms for foreign delegations.
