yakub Kolas Square, Minsk, Belarus

Description:

Yakub Kolas is a famous Belarusian Soviet writer. His real name is Konstantin Mitskevich. He entered the history of Belarus as one of the founders of the new Belarusian literature, became famous due to active creative and scientific activity, was a member of the editorial board of the academic "Russian-Belarusian Dictionary".

Not far from the heart of Minsk is the square that once bore the name Komarovskaya. Once on this place there was a fork of two roads, one of which led in the direction of Polotsk, and the second in the direction of Moscow. In 1956, the square was renamed and began to bear the name of the great writer. 16 years later, in 1972, a monument to Yakub Kolas was erected on it. This event was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of his birth.

The monument is a sculptural composition, in the center of which stands the figure of a poet sitting on a stone. He is depicted in thoughtfulness, propping his head with his hand, and a coat is thrown over his shoulder. On both sides of the monument, at some distance there are two small sculptural groups: "Symon-Music" and "Grandfather Talash" - the embodiment of famous literary heroes.
