Victory Square

p. Victories, Minsk, Belarus

Description:

Laconic and expressive Victory Square is located in the center of Minsk. Its main decoration is a granite obelisk, crowned with a three-dimensional image of the Order of Victory. This is a monument in honor of the victory over Nazi Germany, in memory of all participants in the heroic battle for the Motherland. The ensemble is completed by buildings built in the 50s of the last century.

The monument was erected in 1954 in memory of Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans who died for Belarus. The team of sculptors included: Z. Azgur, A. Bembel, S. Selikhanov. The shape of the obelisk, lined with gray granite, as an ancient symbol of the desire for the sky is not accidental. The obelisk on the square is a classic faceted monument on a large stepped pedestal. On the stele, relief belts with Belarusian ornament are specially located. At the base of the obelisk is the sacred sword of Victory. In 1961, an eternal flame was lit at the foot of the monument.

Later, in 1985, in the underground passage on Victory Square, a memorial hall dedicated to the Heroes of the Soviet Union who died defending Belarus was opened. Special plaques list the names of 566 Heroes. There are also special capsules with earth from other hero cities.

Nowadays, the square is a place where people come to honor the memory of those who died during the war.
