Orthodox Women's St. Elizabeth Monastery

ooh Vygotsky 2, Minsk, 220053, Belarus

Description:

St. Elizabeth Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located on the northern outskirts of Minsk, in the Novinka area. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that at present the monastery is the only one operating in the city. It was founded in the 1990s on a new site where churches had never existed before. The monastery received its name in honor of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.

The complex of monastic buildings includes two temples. Central is the Elizabethan Church, which is built in a style close to the Moscow architecture of the XVI century. The second temple, located in front of the entrance to the monastery, was consecrated in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "The Sovereign". The interior of the temple is decorated with mosaics in the Byzantine style.

In addition to the religious buildings, the ensemble of the monastery includes the bell tower of the Elizabethan Church, which harmoniously combines with the tower located on the opposite side and architecturally repeating the style of the bell tower, as well as a refectory, cell buildings and a fence with low towers painted with frescoes. The monastery has more than twenty different workshops and souvenir shops, as well as a refectory for pilgrims.
