Old Nemiga Street

Belarus, Minsk, street. nemiga

Description:

Nemiga (Nemizskaya) is one of the oldest streets in Minsk. It got its name by the name of the river Nemigi, along the bank of which was laid at the beginning of the XII century. It went from the city center to the west, gradually tightly built up with houses, forming a continuous corridor.

In the XVI-XVII century there were many shops and shops and in a sense we can say that the street was the center of the then trade. It connected the street of the Lower Market with the Trading Square on the Trinity Hill, as well as several workshops and industrial districts. In the postwar years, the street was badly damaged, and there were not enough funds for reconstruction. Some houses were blown up because they did not respond to the usual bulldozer destruction. But Nemiga has not lost its trade value. The old houses were replaced by new ones, electricity was provided and new elegant lanterns were installed.

Unfortunately, the old Nemiga can only be seen in photos. Today Nemiga is one of the busiest streets of Minsk. Residential and commercial construction is underway, many shops and trading houses can be seen throughout the street, spacious shopping centers and hypermarkets are being designed. The pedestrian part of the street was paved with a cobblestone, leaving narrow sidewalks and expanding the carriageway.
