Minsk

Kirov Street in front of the Station Square

Minsk, Belarus

Description:

From the Station Square to the Kirov Bridge stretches one of the most beautiful streets of Minsk - Kirov Street. The length of the street is six hundred and fifty meters, the width is sixty-four and a half meters. The street was originally called the station and received its current name in 1934.

The main construction of the street took place from the late eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century. Subsequently, the general view of the street practically did not change until the Great Patriotic War. During the war, all the streets were destroyed.

After the war, the reconstruction took place under the direction of several architects. Boris Mezentsev supervised the construction of the railway station, which became the thematic center of architectural composition. The remaining buildings in the style of Stalin’s Empire were designed by Valentin Gusev, Alexandra and Vitaly Danilov. By the end of the fifties, the street acquired its present appearance - with four- and five-storey buildings and a wide green boulevard in the middle, where a monument to S. M. Kirov is installed.
