Letter monument
Description:
This is a rare phenomenon in the culture of the country. In Polotsk there is a unique monument to the letter "-", the 22nd letter of the Belarusian alphabet. This written sign appeared in the language from the 1890s and quickly became entrenched in the language culture.
In honor of the specific vowel sound, a monument was erected, the opening of which was timed to the “Day of Belarusian Writing”. Igor Kurzhalov, a famous Belarusian artist, was the author of the symbol of the language.
Walking through the square of the central avenue, visitors can not pass by this unusual cast-iron monument, created in the form of a stele. This monument can last for hours. Residents often check the time on their watch.
It can be argued that a similar letter occurs in many other languages. But, according to the authors of the project, this language symbol deserves special attention of residents. Because it is this vowel that gives the language a special melody.
