Victory Square
Moskovsky Prosp., Vitebsk, Belarus 292 m
Description:
Victory Square is not only the largest in the city of Vitebsk, but also in the whole of Belarus: its area exceeds seven hectares. The square was formed in the 50-70s, during the construction of residential buildings. Before that, there was an ordinary urban suburb, where a swamp was located on the site of today's square. Everything changed in 1974, when a memorial complex was erected in honor of Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans and underground fighters. The monument, popularly called the “three bayonets”, became the center of the composition, around which the square was formed.
In 2009-2010, to the millennium of the city, the square was radically reconstructed. Tile was laid, rare tree species were planted, fountains were installed, two screens were mounted. The memorial complex itself was decorated with granite.
