Description:
Pushkin Bridge in Vitebsk stretches over the Vitba River in the very center of the city. The bridge is pedestrian and connects Pushkin Street and Tolstoy Street. Initially, the bridge was built in 1870, but due to poor design, the bridge quickly became unusable. Since then, it has been continuously reconstructed, which eventually led to the fact that the bridge was no longer safe to walk on. In 1890 the bridge had to be rebuilt.
Today, the 28-meter Pushkin Bridge has a unique arched structure. It is held by a load-bearing concrete structure. In the mid-2000s, the newlyweds had a tradition of hanging locks on the bridge on their wedding day. Recently, the bridge was reconstructed again: instead of asphalt covering, tiles appeared, sculptures of lions were installed as decorative elements, and night lighting was installed.
