Lenin Street

ooh Lenina, Vitebsk, Belarus

Description:

Lenin Street - the central highway of the city - has all the signs of the main street. Wide and well-groomed, it proudly crosses Vitebsk from Victory Square to Smolensk Market. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants. Especially beautiful here on holidays, when the city is decorated with colorful lights, flowers and banners.

Historically, Lenin Street, which had several names in the past, was formed in two stages. The oldest part of it was built in the 14th century, the younger - only in the 19th. Of the significant buildings, everything is located here: from the women's prison to the Bernardine church. Most of the historic buildings were destroyed during World War II and later when the street was expanded. Nowadays, Lenin Street has a modern appearance and becomes more beautiful every year.
