Church of St. Philip Neri

Nicolas Ortiz 165, Sucre, Bolivia

Description:

The Church of St. Philip Neri is one of the main attractions of the Bolivian city of Sucre. The main part of the building was erected in 1795 – 1800. The fact that the monastery was founded in the colonial period is evidenced by the transitional elements of the Baroque and neoclassical styles. On the facade of the temple there are various sculptures and bas-reliefs, among which the bas-relief of St. Philip Neri stands out.

The Church of St. Philip Neri was built of stone brought to order from the Churuquella Hill. The temple has two bell towers, but its main attraction is the beautiful balustrades with many arched openings located on the first and second floors. The interior of the church is represented by four altars made of limestone, a single nave, as well as magnificent frescoes that date from the XVII - XVIII centuries.

The Church of St. Philip Neri has a luxurious terrace, which has preserved an ancient round fountain, erected together with the temple. There are also decorative chairs carved from stone. On the walls of the church hang outstanding paintings with fragments from the life of Philip Neri.
