La Recoleta Monastery

La Recoleta is a monastery of the Franciscan Order located in Mount Sucre, Bolivia. Originally built in 1601, the building has been repeatedly rebuilt and restored. Currently, the monastery is active, here, among the gardens with flowering roses and geranium, fountains and magnificent balustrades, prayer services are held daily. About the old times resemble massive carved wooden doors dating from the beginning of the XIX century.

The monastery of La Recoleta is built in an eclectic style, at the entrance there is a number of columns, on which a neat portico rests. On both sides of the facade of the building there are clock towers, their tops are decorated with beautiful painted domes. In 1960, a utility room was added to La Recoleta, which now houses a church shop.

Every year the monastery of La Recoleta is visited by many tourists and pilgrims. It is one of the symbols of the city.
