Description:

Saint Francis Xavier University is one of the oldest universities in the world. It was founded in 1624 by order of King Philip IV of Spain, with the support of Pope Innocent XII. The university was established to transmit theological knowledge to the descendants of the wealthy nobility of South America. The university acquired its current status in 1780. At the turn of the nineteenth century, it was the center of revolutionary enthusiasm in Bolivia. As soon as the Republic of Simon Bolivar was proclaimed, the university became the main educational institution of the country.

Until the first decade of the XX century, its law faculty was known throughout South America. Currently, training at the University of St. Francis Xavier is conducted at 15 faculties, the most popular of which are: Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Agronomy.

The university building deserves special attention. It is made in the style of classical baroque. Its facade is richly decorated with decorative stucco, at the entrance there are beautiful Doric columns. No less delightful look arched stained glass windows and massive wooden doors.
