Uyuni Salt Desert
Description:
Uyuni is a dried salt lake in the south of the Altiplano Plain.
It is located at an altitude of about 3650 meters above sea level. Its area is 10,582 square kilometers.
This is the largest salt marsh in the world. One of the attractions of Uyuni is the unique cemetery of steam locomotives, retired from service in the 1950s - at a time when mining at the surrounding mines fell sharply. Also on the lake there is a unique hotel of salt blocks, built in 2007. Satellites are often calibrated on Uyuni.
Every year in November, three species of South American flamingos fly to the lake to spend their mating season here.
