Proclamation of the Republic of Brazil

Description:

Dia da Proclamação da República - Proclamation of the Republic
Every year on November 15 in Brazil, the holiday is called "Dia da Proclamação da República" - "Day of Proclamation of the Republic".

On November 15, 1889, Emperor D. Pedro II was deposed by the military, and Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca proclaimed a republic, the United States of Brazil (a República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil).

The transition from monarchy to republic was relatively calm and bloodless.

The imperial family was expelled from the country.

The Republic adopted a federal system of government. The provinces were transformed into states. The parliamentary form was replaced by the presidential system of government.
