Day of the Soldier in Brazil

Presidential GuardSoldier’s Day is a holiday in honor of soldiers of the Brazilian army. This date was first celebrated in 1923.

This day is dedicated to the Brazilian military hero, Marshal Luís Alves de Lima e Silva - Duque de Caxias - patron of the Brazilian army. It is celebrated on his birthday (25 August 1803 – 7 May 1880).

Throughout the twentieth century, this date has lost its popularity and is no longer a public holiday.
