Federal University of Pará is a state university with its main building in the state of Pará.
The University was established on July 2, 1957. Some faculties of the university, such as the Faculty of Medicine and Law, are among the oldest in Brazil.
In 2011, the university ranked 15th among Brazilian universities in the Academic Ranking by number of students. Today, more than 40,000 students study at the Federal University of Para. There are many nationally recognized groups among the university’s research societies, especially in the fields of geosciences, genetics and neurosciences.
The university is supported by the federal government of Brazil.
