Republic Square

Praca da Repú blica, Bel m, Brasil

Description:

Republic Square is a beautiful square in the city of Belem.

Initially, this vast desert area, lying between the surroundings of Campina and the road leading to the temple of the Virgin Mary of Nazareth, was called Largo de Campina. The current name of the square was in honor of the change of the political regime.

In the center of the square is a monument to the Heroes of the Republic. This monument with a height of 20 meters, created from Carrara marble, was opened on November 15, 1897. There are also two buildings on the square: a large building - the experimental theater of Valdemar Enrique, and a small building - the art school of the Federal University of Pará.

Many major festive celebrations are held on Republic Square. Other days it is the perfect place for family picnics, meetings with friends or dating.
