Don Bosco Chapel

Brazil / Distrito Federal / Brasilia / Lago Sul (RA-XVI)

Description:

The Don Bosco Chapel is located in Brasilia, near Lake Paranoa. It is consecrated in honor of one of the most revered Italian saints, the founder of the Order of the Salesians. Don Bosco became famous for seeing clearly in his dream in 1883 the capital of a great nation - the abode of justice and peace, and even indicated the place where the city of the future will appear - between the parallels of the 15th and 20th. It was here that Brasilia grew up. A chapel dedicated to Don Bosco was erected on the 15th parallel and became the first temple in the new capital.

At the end of each summer, celebrations are held in Brasilia in honor of the prophetic dream of the saint. The chapel became a local landmark. The monument, the author of which is Oscar Nemeyer, built in a modern strict style, without any decorations. The structure is made in the form of a pyramid, covered with white marble with a metal cross on top. Inside the sanctuary is carved in marble image of the prophet. The chapel is installed on the top of the hill, on the territory of the ecological park.
