Description:
Alvorada Palace (or Dawn Palace) is the official residence of the President of Brazil. The building got its name thanks to the legendary phrase of Jucelin Kubitschek that the city of Brasilia is the dawn of a new day of the country. The author of the project is Oscar Niemeyer. The building was built in 1958 and became one of the first in the new capital of Brazil.
The palace is located on the peninsula, on Lake Paranoa. The basis of the construction are the principles of simplicity and purity. Unusual in shape columns on the facade give the structure a feeling of lightness and airiness. The area of the three-storey palace is 7 thousand square meters.
The ground floor houses a kitchen, a conference room, a medical center, an administrative block, a laundry room. The first floor is occupied by halls for official receptions. The second floor is reserved for residential premises: there are apartments of the President’s family, two guest rooms and private rooms. In the foyer of the building on the golden wall are carved the words of Kubicek about the upcoming great fate of the country. The palace also has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a music room, a library and dining rooms.
