Museum of Money

DF 70074-900 (DF 70074-900 Brasilia Brasil)

About the company:

The largest money museum in Latin America is in Brazil. In 1960, the initiator of the creation of such a museum was the Cetrobank, which allocated 1,300 square meters of exhibition space for the collection. The exhibits were originally located in the Central Bank office in Rio de Janeiro, but moved to the capital Brasilia in 1981.

More than 125,000 exhibits of local and foreign origin occupy two floors and the basement of the Central Bank. The expositions are divided into four thematic parts: “Brazilian coins and banknotes”, which were in circulation at different stages of history, “Foreign coins and banknotes”, which were allowed as a payment document, “Collections of the Bank” and “Gold”. The pearl of the last hall is the largest gold nugget ever mined in Brazil weighing 60.8 kg.
