Monument to the Equator Marco Zero

The so-called "Marco Zero" is the zero mark showing the exact passage of the equator on the ground. A peculiar monument to this zero is located in the Brazilian town of Makapa, which the equator divides into two hemispheres. It is one of the important similar marks scattered around the world.

The monument looks simple, but original. This is a rather high stele, the top of which cuts a circle. Through it you can see the heavenly bodies. Especially interesting sight is on the days of the spring and winter solstice: the sun these days fills the circle of the monument, located exactly on the equator.
