This amazing Catholic church is one of the highest in Latin America. We are talking about the Small Basilica of the Glorious Our Lady, located in the city of Maringa in the Brazilian state of Paraná.
The initial project was proposed by don Jaime Luis Coelho, and the construction work was carried out by the architect Jose Augusto Bellucci. The idea of creating this unusual temple was inspired by space discoveries and the launch of the first satellites. Therefore, the architectural project traces the canonical form in the Art Nouveau style. A piece of marble, the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome and the cornerstone were laid at the base of the temple by Pope Pius XII on August 15, 1958. All construction works were carried out from 1959 to 1972, and the consecration took place on May 3, 1981.
The total height of this futuristic temple is 114 meters, and its outer diameter is 50 meters. Currently, 4,700 worshippers can pray in this temple. But not only the stylistic design and size amaze visitors, but also 16 stunning bends designed by Lorenz Osterroth. The interior is decorated with a seven-meter wooden crucifix created by sculptor Conrad Moser.
