Casa de Camara e Cadeia Prison
Description:
Casa de Camara e Cadeia is a former Brazilian prison. Local authorities are now located here. There is a local mayor’s office, public organizations, the prosecutor’s office, and even a court. Note that several centuries ago, during the existence of the building, many departments were located here.
The building was built in 1653. It was originally intended to house prisoners and soldiers. Two centuries later, in 1824, with the introduction of the new Constitution, many prisoners were released, part of the building became empty, and the authorities decided to house the judiciary.
The structure has two floors.
It even has a special room where plenary sessions are held. Currently, in one part of the former prison there is a museum available for tourists. All visitors may be interested in the design of an ancient Brazilian prison, a place of detention of prisoners, as well as the device of the police department of the last century.
