Maringá

Museum da Basia do Paranán

Colombo, 5.790, Maringa, Brazil

About the company:

The initiative to create such a museum appeared in 1972, but the museum was opened a decade later, in 1984. Most often it is called the “Museum of Colonization” and it is generally dedicated to all the inhabitants of the Paraná River basin who once settled here, embodying the dream of making this region prosperous. The house of Alfred Werner Niffeler, the first inhabitant of Maringa, became a museum, proved to be the embodied memory of those who made the dense forest prosperous coffee plantations and built the city of Maringa.

The museum contains many documents: texts, photographs, press, furniture, appliances and so on, and exhibitions of local artists are regularly held here. The museum employees strive not only to record a fragment of history, captured in the documents, but also to preserve the memory of those who built Maringa.
