Reis Magus Fortress

Forte dos Reis Magos, Avenida Praia do Forte, s/nº, Santos Reis - Natal - RN, 59010-000, Brazil

Description:

Fort Reis Magus, better known as the Fortress of the Three Kings, was founded by the Portuguese on December 25, 1599. Subsequently, people began to settle near the fort, thanks to which the city of Natal grew.

Fort Reis Magus is surrounded by a snow-white star-shaped wall. The main task of the fort was to protect against Dutch ships, but, contrary to expectations, Reis Magus did not cope with this task. Already in the early seventeenth century, after a long siege, the fort was surrendered to the Dutch.

A significant role in the history of Fort Reis Magus was played by World War II. Then American troops were based on the territory of the fort, and according to all documents, Flight Magus appeared under the name "Tramplin of Victory".

Today Fort Reis Magus is a museum and is open to visitors.
