Itacoatiara Beach is a picturesque beach with golden sand and turquoise water. The beach is about 30 minutes by car or an hour by bus east of Niteroy town.
The main beach is not safe for ordinary swimmers, but it offers ideal conditions for water sports. Waves on this beach sometimes reach 4 meters, and sometimes 5 meters, so it is best to practice surfing, body surfing and bodyboarding here for most of the year.
On the left side of the beach are the cliffs of Costão, which protect the small beach from strong winds and waves. The small beach is called Prainha and is mostly visited by parents with their young children looking for safe places to relax and swim.
