The Church of Our Lady of Relentless Help

Lgo. do Amparo, s/n | Centro, Olinda, Pernambuco State, Brazil

Description:

The Church of Our Lady of Persistent Help is a church that was built in the XVII century. The temple was burned down by the Dutch, who rebuilt it in 1644. However, since it is one of the most traditional Catholic churches, restoration work continued almost until the end of the XVIII century. During this time, the chapel, altar, side altars and ceiling were duly decorated in Baroque style.

The church, however, was never fully completed. This design, however, is different from other churches in Olinda. In 1795, the inhabitants of the town, as a sign of faith and love for the Virgin of Relentless Help, built a bell tower and a facade with one tower at the expense of donations and volunteer work. Above it lay the coat of arms with the sign of the Holy Mother of God in addition to the architectural monument.
