Krishnaite Temple and Recife Religious Center
Rua Bernardo Guimaraes 114, Recife
Description:
The Krishna Temple and Resif religious center belong to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, whose followers are better known as Krishnaites or Vaishnaites. The cultural center and temple were founded in 1978.
The religious center was founded in Recife in the late seventies of the XX century on the wave of popularity of Krishnaism in Europe and America. The current leaders of the community consider the well-known guru acarya Prabhupada their spiritual inspiration. Because of this, in the temple you can see not only images of Krishna and Govinda, the main gods of the Krishna pantheon, but also photos of guru Prabhupada.
The temple is located in a small two-storey pink building built near the ocean coast. From the balcony of the temple there is a beautiful view of the Atlantic.
Today, the temple holds regular services, a cultural and educational center, and a museum of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is opened. Near the cultural center is a vegetarian restaurant.
