Museum of Modern Art
Rua 13 de Maio, Olinda, Recife
About the company:
The Museum of Modern Art was opened in 1966 and became the most important art collection in Olinda. Here are the works of the main creators of the Brazilian avant-garde, postmodernism and neorealism.
The Museum of Contemporary Art became the first public museum in Olinda, known for its carnival and quaint cultural traditions. The work of the museum is closely connected with the Cultural Development Fund of Pernambuco, so special attention was paid to the work of local artists.
The museum is located in an unusual and in its own gloomy place - in the building of the city hall, the lower floor of which was assigned to the prison of the Inquisition, which operated here until the end of the XVIII century. There is still a sinister atmosphere, which emphasizes the emotional works of artists of the state of Pernambuco.
Exhibits of the museum tell about various directions of development of Brazilian art in the XX century. The museum presents the works of famous artists Di Cavalzanti, Tellesz Junior, the great sculptor Franchisco Brennand, whose works can be found on the streets of Recife.
