Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Av. Guararapes, 339-427, Petrolina - PE, 56302-000, Brazil

Description:

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic church built in neo-Gothic style in 1949 by Petrolina’s first bishop, Antonio Malan. The church consists of 57 stained glass windows, which made the temple one of the largest and most beautiful temples in Brazil.

The temple is built facing west, following the old rules. Three bronze bells weighing 1440 kilograms were brought here from France. Initially, a small wooden temple was built on the site of the church, which eventually became too small for a growing parish.

Today, the temple is active and belongs to the metropolis of Olinda y Recife, whose number is 421,900 people.
