Rio on the Wave: Surfing
Description:
The class takes place in Barra da Tijuca, a modern part of Rio, about 30-40 minutes from Copacabana. This area is often referred to as “Brazilian Miami”: wide avenues, modern buildings, a long line of ocean beaches and a very different atmosphere compared to the more touristy areas of the city. Here are some of the most famous surf spots in Rio, where both locals and professional surfers come to ride. Many tourists never make it here, although this is a great opportunity to see another side of the city – more sporty, local and connected to the ocean.
The program lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes. You will try surfing in the ocean with a certified teacher, an experienced surfer and the founder of the school. Before entering the water, you will be shown basic techniques, explain how to work with the board, keep balance and feel more confident on the waves. The instructor accompanies participants throughout the class, so the program is suitable even for those who have never tried surfing before.
After class, you can stay in Barra, walk along the ocean, have a coffee or snack at one of the local cafes and restaurants by the beach.
