Rio Negro Palace
Avenida Koeler, 255, Centro - Petró polis - RJ, 25685-060
Description:
The Rio Negro Palace is one of the official residences of the President of Brazil. Its construction began in 1889, three months before the establishment of the republic.
At the time when Petrolis was the capital of the state, government meetings were held in the palace building, and later it turned into a summer residence. It is a remarkable fact that each president tried to contribute to the appearance of the palace. For example, Vargas created Roman-style baths in the place where wine barrels once stood, and Kubitschek took up more intimate issues and placed toilets in the building.
After the transfer of the capital, the building is rarely used and mainly as a cultural and exhibition center. Any visitor can admire the furniture in the style of Portuguese Baroque - dark, massive and with unique carvings, as well as admire the unique beauty of the parquet.
