Mount Corcovado
Tijuca National Park, Alto da Boa Vista, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Description:
Mount Corcovado is one of the symbols of Rio de Janeiro. At its top stands a 38-meter statue of Christ the Redeemer, which is visible from almost all areas of the city. To visit Rio and not climb Corcovada is a real crime: after all, the picturesque view that opens from its top is truly unforgettable.
A railway is laid to the top of Corcovadu. Amazingly, the road was built in 1884 and is still in operation today. Every hour, trains can lift up to 360 passengers to Corcovada. During the year, the summit is visited by more than three hundred thousand tourists.
Speaking of Corcovada, one cannot ignore the statue of Christ. It was established on October 12, 1931. The main idea pursued by the creators of the statue was to convey one message to people: everything is in the hands of God.
