Description:

Quinta da Boa Vista is literally translated from Portuguese as “manor of beautiful views”. This is the most interesting palace and park complex of the city.

The construction of the architectural complex was started in 1808 by the future King of Portugal João VI. A few years earlier, a mansion overlooking Guanabara Bay was built here. Later this mansion was given to João VI. The palace now belongs to the state.

Today, the architectural complex consists of the San Cristovan Palace, a park and a zoo with more than 2,000 species of animals. The main palace houses the National Museum of Brazil with many interesting archaeological finds, animals and plants.
