Organ Hills National Park
Rotariana, s/n, Teresopolis, Rio 25960-602, Brazil
Description:
The National Park "Organ Hills" is a mountain range located in the state of Rio de Janeiro Brazil, which was recognized as a national park in 1939.
The park is about an hour drive from the city center. The purpose of the park is to protect the beautiful forest on the slopes of the mountain. This unusual name was given by Portuguese settlers, who thought that the ensemble of mountain peaks and hills partially resembled organ pipes in cathedrals.
The park is quite large, its area is 110 square kilometers. The park is part of a chain of mountains and the most common areas around. Scientists suggest that the park was formed as a result of an earthquake that was about sixty million years ago. This means that it is in a geologically unstable place.
