St. Anthony's Monastery

Largo da Carioca - Centro, Rio de Janeiro, 20050-020, Brazil

Description:

The Monastery of St. Antonia is a monastery located on the hill of Rio de Janeiro. The construction of the monastery began in 1608 and only in 1620 the construction was completely completed. It looks more like an impregnable fortress. Visitors to the monastery are prohibited for religious reasons.

The walls inside the monastery are decorated with beautiful frescoes and painted in the Baroque style, the earliest of which are dated to 1870. The interior is entirely decorated with gold, and the beautiful altar is majestically located in the very center of the temple. Exquisite stands of pure gold and silver tell the story of the era. People can pray and enjoy the atmosphere. The temple itself decorates the garden outside.
